Use the Game Genie codes 1AB6-6588 + 6DB6-65E8 and select Configuration to access a fairly detailed debug menu.

Selecting 'MODE 7 TEST PROGRAM' fades out, then fades right back into the debug menu, so it might have been removed. 'JOY PAD INPUT TEST' and 'MONITER TEST' bring up the same tests that appear in the normal Configuration menu.

Pressing the B Button will exit the menu.

Controls
Up/Down: Change Style value by 1.
Left/Right: Change Style value by 16.
X Button: Increment Color value.
B Button: Decrement Color value.

Press the B Button to toggle the selected bit.

BGMODE: The SNES' current graphics mode.
MAIN: Toggles the 5 available layers (4 BG + Object layer).
